What are the guidelines for marriage and relationships in the Army?

Do you have to be the same exact rank to be married/be in a

relationship with someone? What are the guidelines for it?What are the guidelines for marriage and relationships in the Army?
no. however Officers and enlisted cannot date at all. if one gets commissioned after the relationship began that's okay.

generally speaking no more than 2 degrees of separation between rank or paygrade.. an E6 cannot date an E2 for instance but they could date an E5.

you CANNOT be in each others chain of command no matter what. What are the guidelines for marriage and relationships in the Army?
You are not allowed to date someone that is higher ranking than you. You are also not allowed to date an officer if you are enlisted and vice versa. However, you can be married to anyone no matter what thier rank is. So no matter what rank you are or they are you can get married but there can never be evidence of you dating someone higher/lower ranking than you. Also it usually doesn't make any difference if you are within 1 pay grade of each other, they just can't be your direct supervisor.
You can be any rank but if you are in same unit or same platoon etc it would be a problem and they would need to separate.

Consult the unit commander first with a hypothetical situation first as some can be angry about it.

If one is officer and the other is enlisted then the officer may be disciplined if it conflicts etc
no
